Mission Statement
STEM Academy of Boyle Heights, a LAUSD high school in the East Los Angeles, seeks to teach and demonstrate practical and innovative solutions to cool down the Los Angeles community, in response to the warm climate change also known as urban heat.

What is Urban Heat?
Urban heat, a phenomenon where above average warm temperature is negatively impacting the metropolis regions, in particularly urban areas. (NPR, "What you need to know about urban heat problem." Peterson, Sept 5, 2017) Such high temperatures have caused asthma, allergies and other major heat related illnesses As seen on the map, many are concentrated on urban areas where they lack vegetation, functioning air conditioning units, or poor electrical infrastructure.
STEM Academy of Boyle Heights
The vision of STEM in Boyle Heights is to create a school where a collaborative staff will increase the number of students who enter college and graduate with a STEM degree. We set high expectations, develop and implement a shared curriculum and cultivate a community of lifelong learners. Our students will be exposed to STEM work place scenarios that simulate real world STEM projects in order to foster an environment that develops analytical thinking, innovation, invention, teamwork and communication skills. Upon graduation from STEM in Boyle Heights students will be college ready with STEM competency, A-G completion and have familiarity with the UC / CSU systems.
